Index is a new visual arts festival for Leeds and Wakefield taking place during Yorkshire Sculpture International. The programme presents a wide range of exhibitions, performances, screenings and more, featuring work by over 300 local, national and international artists across 40 sites.

To coincide with the final weeks of the Index festival the launch of the BLANK_ project space and publication the work is themed around contemporary sculpture in its various forms. This event is to celebrate the festival of sculpture, and in keeping with the ethos of the gallery to bring into focus the grassroots artist activities happening within the region.

This first edition of BLANK_ publication is particularly special. BLANK_ 01 launches as we move into our new home at Quarry Hill at the centre of the city’s cultural quarter and coincides with the launch of the eponymous gallery within University Centre Leeds. Acknowledging that architecture speaks to and informs the identity of its occupants, we invite you through this publication into our creative community, to visit the gallery, explore the theatre, and to participate in events, talks, and courses. Aiming to reflect the landscape of contemporary creative culture, BLANK_ 01 responds to this year’s Yorkshire Sculpture International (YSI) and INDEX festivals, which showcase the breadth and diversity of contemporary sculptural practices.
